Beat the heat when camping.

Have you ever gone camping and realized you haven't brought
the right gear or supplies? Here are some pointers when
packing for the great outdoors.

Check out the weather

Investigating the weather conditions and temperature of the
area of you are going to is a must. The last thing you want
is to be stuck in a place that is inundated with torrential
rain. Or is unbearably hot when you visit.

Of course, learning about the weather only helps if Mother
Nature doesn't decide to change her mind when you're out.
It never hurts to plan for her worst.

Water-The Camper's best friend.

While you're certainly going to bring water with you, are
you bringing enough? A lot of novice campers think that
water is too heavy to carry and that bringing as little as
possible is the best plan.

It's not.

You want to bring at least a gallon of water per person per
day that you will be camping. Yes, this will be heavy, but
it's a lot heavier to carry someone to safety should they
get dehydrated.

Besides water, you may also want to carry some sports
drinks. They contain water and electrolytic salts that
replenish those lost by your body in hot weather.
Alternatively, you can buy electrolytic salts in powder form
and mix them with water before drinking.

Mmm! Tastes good too!

Nourish your body

While you may not feel like eating in the heat, you need to
balance your liquids with food. This helps to keep your
body in balance. The human body is a delicate system of
electrolytes that can fall out of balance easily in extreme
weather conditions.

A good rule of thumb is to eat something every time you
drink water. It can be just a bite or two of nuts or
pretzels. Try to find something with some sugar or salt in
it for the best results.

Optimal kit

Keep you head protected from the sun with a hat or visor.
Try and wear light colored clothes and apply sunscreen on
parts of your body that are bare.

You will have enough to cope with without having to deal
with a nasty case of sunburn!

Carrying some communication equipment is vital -- just in
case you have to radio or call for assistance. And
all-too-important, a well-stocked first aid kit is a must.

Take a companion along

To get the most out of your camping trip share the
experience with a good friend. You won't'tregret it!
